We are all still needed as #occupy #patriots

Money equals speech - that's the new refrain of the political class. If you have the money you can raise the volume of your voice to unimaginable levels, and all kinds of (corporate) folks will smile and tell you what a wonderful person you are. On the other hand if you and your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers don't have a lot of cash but still want to raise the volume of your speech - say by holding a public outpouring of that ol' "right of the people peaceably to assemble" - well then you and you're family, friends, neighbors and co-workers are to be literally beat and gassed and subjected to electric shock and worse.

This is why I bring this story to your attention: "A petition on the White House’s “We the People” site that calls for Motion Picture Association of American President Chris Dodd to be investigated for “blatant bribery” has nearly gained enough signatures to require a response."

The petition itself states "Recently on FOX News former Senator Chris Dodd said (as quoted on news site TechDirt), "Those who count on quote 'Hollywood' for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who's going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake," This is an open admission of bribery and a threat designed to provoke a specific policy goal. This is a brazen flouting of the "above the law" status people of Dodd's position and wealth enjoy.

We demand justice. Investigate this blatant bribery and indict every person, especially government officials and lawmakers, who is involved."

(Note: I tried signing the petition but nothing - as in something that was nothing - kept happening. I'm not sure if I got signed up or not!)

All that free-money speech that Dodd has to throw around can even be turned into direct political action, and yet you and I would be clubbed, maced or worse for trying better and honest approaches without the cash.

We really are all still needed.
